It's OK to not be OK During the Holiday Season

One of the things that has been a core value for me – in life and business – is a desire to help others. It doesn't matter who you are, the truth is that volunteering your time, money, and energy definitely makes the world better in little ways, even if it doesn't seem to make a difference at the time. But one thing you can't deny: Helping others and giving of yourself makes you a better person.

Research shows that the act of serving supper at a food bank, giving your gently worn clothes to an organization like Dress for Success, or even walking dogs from the local shelter, boosts your happiness, health, and sense of well-being. Doing these things even helps you feel closer to your loved ones and your community.

When I started Createscape in 2014, giving back and helping my community was definitely part of my business plan. Building an affordable coworking space was, in part, born out of a passion to support people who were in a similar situation as myself, my co-founders, and my peers. The reason I'm mentioning this now is because the holidays always makes me reminisce about Createscape's early days. But for others, their thoughts may not be on such joyful memories or fulfilling accomplishments.

We know this past year was still really difficult for a lot of people. If not for you, then maybe a family member, a friend, or even a neighbor. So as we wrap up another year, I wanted to focus some attention on helping those who are struggling.

Here are a few articles that I've actually read throughout the year when I was having a hard time. And while a blog post can't solve your problems, there was something in each of these that made me feel just a little bit less alone. After all, we really are in this together!

If you or someone you know is feeling down, I recommend reaching out to a friend. Also, please have a look the links below and share with your network. You never know when someone really needs a helping hand.
