Q&A with Createscape member Adrian Vallejo

From what I understand, you first heard about Createscape on meetup and came to our “Austin Coworking Day” BBQ. Is that when you first decided to join?

That’s correct, I first heard about Createscape on Meetup’s East Austin Coworking Community and decided to attend Createscape’s “Austin Coworking Day” BBQ. I didn’t join the coworking space that day, but that’s when I realized the great opportunity I had.

Have you ever been a member of a coworking space before that?

Yes, before joining the East Austin office, I was a member at Catapult Lakeland

You’re unique in that you joined as a part-time member and you come to a good amount of our happy hour events. Was one of your primary reasons for joining a coworking space for networking opportunities?

Having networking opportunities was definitely a high incentive for me to join. I was getting tired of working out of coffee shops, where you are not able to have genuine business conversations.

I also missed having water cooler chats with other human beings.

You produce content (for bilingual consumers, too!). A lot of Createscape members network here and work on projects together. Have you partnered with any members yet? As far as I know, every company needs content.

During my time at Createscape, I haven’t had a chance to partner with any other members, but that’s something I would consider strongly.

When you joined Createscape, you had recently moved into the apartment complex on the south side of our parking lot (The Guthrie). Were you able to see the office from your living room window?

I couldn’t see the office from my living room window because my unit faced the other direction, but I would tell my guests my office was next door!

The Guthrie Apartment Complex on the corner of Tillery Street & Gonzales Street

We remember when your apartment complex used to be a lumber yard. That’s not a question. Just an observation.

Haha, that’s not the first time I heard that! My friend was a member here a few years ago and he said the same thing!

What kind of work do you do?

I help create event detection algorithms for a SaaS software company called DataCapable.

My company focuses on closing the communication gap between businesses, their customers, their communities and the critical events that impact them. The products are built to increase safety, communication and value through enabling the real-time global discovery and prediction of events impacting people and places.

DataCapable’s tools are powered by patented artificial intelligence machine-learning algorithms that analyze structured and unstructured sources of data like social media, community alerts, text messages, voice and more.

Above all, I also contribute to the organization's marketing efforts

When you’re not working here, do you work at home or at coffee shops?

When I’m not at Createscape you can usually find me working from home or from the Austin Central Public Library.

I know you travel a lot for work. Where have you been in 2019?

Oh dear! You are making me feel nostalgic. In 2019 I was in the Spanish Canary Islands, Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico, Germany, England and Canada.

This March I’ll be working from Peru for a month!

What do you do when you’re not working and not hanging out with us at our happy hour events?

One of my favorite activities is to go swimming at Barton Springs. I usually read a book and listen to music before I dive into the water.

I hear you do some DJing on the side. (By “hear,” I mean that I saw it on your website, adriancvallejo.com.) Where do you DJ?

I’m a bedroom DJ, which means I only DJ from home ha-ha. While I’m in Peru I’ll take a music production class, so I hope to share my music with other people besides my neighbors.
