‘Curious Blend’ Episode 5… Crafting Life Stories: The Art of Memoir and Ghostwriting with Jessica Bross
In this episode of Curious Blend, Keller speaks with Jessica Bross, the founder of Cider Spoon Stories, an Austin-based ghostwriting and memoir coaching company. Jessica has over a decade of experience with ghostwriting non-fiction books, and she is also a published author herself.
Jessica started Cider Spoon Stories in 2014 after working on her grandfather's memoir.
But how did she take her experience telling a family story and translate that into telling the stories of others? Jessica's creative process for ghostwriting memoirs involves sitting down with the client and talking about their life story. She then tries to find the "beating heart" of the story and trace it through the narrative.
Like many we’ve had on the podcast Jessica’s work is a mix of the creative and the entrepreneurial. Some of the biggest challenges she faced in the early days of her business were getting her name out there and building trust with clients. She has helped clients write memoirs about a variety of topics, including their childhood experiences, their careers, and their experiences with trauma.
We couldn’t let a chat with an author go by without some good book recommendations. Some of Jessica's favorite books include The Night Parade by Jami Nakamura Lin and any book by Catriona Ward.
There’s much more to the conversation so check out the whole interview here or find us on your favorite podcast platform.
